The 6th piece of “Kusatsu Music Archive” is the Debussy’s masterpiece cello sonata, I. Prologue: Lent, sostenuto e molto risoluto. Pierre Fournier plays the cello and Keiko Toyama plays the piano. The great cellist, Maurice Gendron attended the 1st Kusatsu Music Festival, and another French cellist Pierre Fournier who is representing the 20th century attended the 6th festival in 1985. Keiko Toyama who is also known for her Debussy performances performed with him. The elegant performance that filled the Tenguyama Rest House in Kusatsu impressed many people. Pierre Fournier left Japan, promising to return to Kusatsu two years later. However he passed away suddenly five months later and the long-awaited revisit did not take place.
