【Kusatsu Music Archive】Bach “Aus der Tiefen” conducted by Helmut Winschermann

The 4th piece of “Kusatsu Music Archive” is Bach’s Choral “Aus der Tiefen”, BWV246/40A. It is performed by Masahito Tanaka’s bassoon solo, conducted by Helmut Winschermann and Academy Chamber Orchestra.
Helmut Winschermann was a German conductor and oboist who was also known as the founder of the Deutsche Bachsolisten and trained many young musicians. He played an important role as a mentor and performer in the 1st and 3rd Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy & Festival on the theme of Bach.
“Aus der Tiefen” was performed as an encore for “Bach concert” the last day of the 1st Kusatsu Festival. This work was discovered in 1966 in Japan in its own handwriting. It was the first time to be performed in public, and it was performed by bassoon solo and string orchestra under the direction of Helmut Winschermann.
This is the beginning of the Kusatsu Music Festival where new works can be encountered.
