Doris ADAM

Doris Adam was born in Vienna and received her first piano lessons at the age of six with Renate Kramer – Preisenhammer, then she studied with Heinz Medjimorec at the Academy of Music in Vienna. Her first public performance with orchestra was at the age of eight years in Vienna. 

  • 1986 – First  prize  Rudolf  Heydner  Competition,  Vienna 
  • 1987 –   Bösendorfer Scholarship Vienna 
  • 1989 –  Finalist of the „13ème Concours Clara Haskil“, Switzerland 
  • 1992 –  Merit Award ofthe Federal Ministry for Science and Research, Vienna 1993 – First prize Bösendorfer Competition, Vienna 
  • 1994 – Culture Support Award of the city Baden 
  • 2002 – Pasticcio – Award” of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation for the CD               “50 Variations on a Waltz of Diabelli”.  

An internationally successful concert career takes her to many important musical centers such as London, New York, Tokyo, Vienna, Salzburg, Basel, Birmingham, Prague, Milan, Gothenburg, Antwerp, Leipzig, Valencia, Stuttgart, etc.  

Doris Adam performes as soloist with many prominent orchestras such as Symphony Orchestra Basel, Philharmonic Orchestra Flanders, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, I Virtuosi di Praga, Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, Niedersächsische Philharmonie Hannover, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, City of Birmingham Symphony  Orchestra (CBSO), The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Liverpool, Trondheim Symphony   Orchestra, Orquesta de Valencia, etc., under conductors as Walter Weller, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Alfred Eschwé, Manfred Honeck, Bernhard Klee, Günther Neuhold, Uriel Segal, Arild Remmereit Andreas Stoehr, Carlos Kalmar, Thomas Roesner, Oldrich Vlcek, etc.  

Since 1983 Doris Adam is a guest at many international music festivals such as Allegro Vivo, Carinthischer Sommer, Bruckner Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Schubertiade Hohenems, Bregenzer Frühling, Bregenzer Festwochen, Wiener Frühlingsfestival, etc.  

Her concert career is also enriched by chamber music performances with eminent musicians including members of the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony Orchestra. 

Since 1986 she regularly performsDuo-recitals nationally and internationallywith her sister, the renowned violinist Karin Adam. Since 2008 she and her sister Doris Adam have established a    concert series in Austria including recitals and chamber music performances with    international musicians. 

Doris Adam has released numerous recordings (by Camerata Tokyo) including works for piano solo (compositions by Schumann, Schubert, as well as unknown solo compositons by Alfred Grünfeld, Waltzes by Johann Strauss, Paraphrases by Eduard Schütt and Grünfeld, Variations by Franz Schmidt on a theme of Beethoven, 50 Variations on a Waltz of Diabelli, etc.) and chamber music (trios by Hans Gál, sonatas for piano and violin by Brahms, Beethoven, Schubert, Fauré, Grieg, Dvořák. etc.).    

Doris Adam also engages intensively in contemporary music. A CD with the Concerto for Violin and Piano by Richard Dünser (a wellknown Austrian composer, performed by Doris and Adam Karin and the Wiener Concertverein) and a CD of pieces from Richard Dünser and Gottfried von Einemwere released. 

Since 1999 Doris Adam directs a piano solo class at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
