Anonymous: Zauberflötenmesse (Japan Premiere)
This mass was inspired by Mozart (1756-91) ‘s opera “The Magic Flute,” which is thought to have been composed around 1810.
It consists of six pieces: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei.
In the old music archive of the Lichtental Parish Church in Vienna (commonly known as the Schubert Church), handwritten part scores from the time of Michael Holzer (1772-1826) who was the church organist and choral conductor who was Schubert’s mentor, have been preserved.
This Mass, which has familiar overtures and arias from “The Magic Flute,” will be performed for the first time in Japan on the recommendation of Dr. Otto Biba, a member of our festival’s planning committee and former archive director of the Wiener Musikverein.

Franz Xaver Süßmayr: Ave Verum Corpus (Japan Premiere)
Süßmayr (1766-1803) is an Austrian composer known for his completion of Mozart’s posthumous Requiem. He was also a composer of church music, and was closely associated with Mozart, having assisted Mozart in writing “The Mercy of Emperor Tito” and “The Magic Flute”.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Ave Verum Corpus
A quiet and solemn sounding masterpiece from Mozart’s later years. Mozart, who was born in the Catholic city of Salzburg, composed church music at each milestone in his life, and his last composition for a church society was “Ave Verum Corpus”. Thanksgiving and praise to Christ are sung.

We are looking forward to your participation!
